SALT LAKE CITY — Do you have thousands of photos trapped inside your phone? The Chatbooks app makes it easy to get those photos out of your phone and into a physical book.

"Chatbooks is an app for iPhone,Android, and the web that helps people get their photos off their digital devices, their computer, out of the cloud and into their hands so they can hold onto what matters most: their memories," said Vanessa Quigley, co-founder of the Provo company.

Users can make a custom book and pick each photo or they can subscribe and simply let a specific photo source fill up the book for them. They can choose to have their Instagram, Facebook or photo favorites as the source. Chatbooks will notify them once their book has 60 photos and give them a chance to edit and rearrange any photos before it's printed and shipped.

"It's kind of like subscribing to the magazine of your life," Quigley said.

Quigley said she used to scrapbook a lot but as her family grew and digital photography grew, she had less time to scrapbook and stopped printing pictures. She got the idea for Chatbooks after one of her kids brought home a stack of snapshots that his preschool teacher had taken throughout the year.

"He said 'Mom, I never want to grow up' and it was like a stab to the heart that the only thing this little kid had to show for his life so far was a couple of snapshots his teacher had given him," Quigley said. "I knew we had to do something to solve this problem that I had and that I knew lots of other moms and people had of getting our photos into our hands so we could enjoy them."

You can also have multiple people contributing to a single Chatbook if you want photos from several different people. You can also order as many copies as you want for each book you make.

The company launched in June of 2014 and has now sold more than 750,000 books and has more than 100,000 active subscribers. The books are printed and bound in Provo and are shipped all over the world. The books are six inches by six inches and use 100-pound satin coating paper.

The books start at $8 with free shipping for the soft cover and hardcovers are $5 more. Users also have the option to pay more for express shipping.
