THE WORLDWIDE LEADER — The biggest news of the weekend, on social media and beyond, was the returning of Division I FBS-level college football on Saturday — and that meant the return of ESPN College GameDay and fans' camera-hungry signs.

Here are the best from the week that was, as well as more sights and sounds from around the nation's national collegiate pastime.

Free Khakis

Utah opened the week with a 24-17 victory Thursday night over Michigan and new coach Jim Harbaugh. The moment gave Ohio State fans plenty of ammo against the new Wolverines coach and his famous khaki pants.

For the record, fans in Ann Arbor are still looking for their free khakis.

Saban pays for Tinder

Local school BYU has the second-highest Tinder-using male student population in the country, but it was Alabama coach Nick Saban who was accused of using a paid version of the popular dating app Saturday.

Also for the record, KSL has not learned anything other than that Saban is happily married to his wife Terry.

Northwestern's Nerd Swag

Northwestern stole the early part of Saturday with its 16-6 upset over No. 21 Stanford, but it was the Wildcats' coaching staff that stole the postgame show.

Northwestern assistant coach Jerry Brown has moves — and so will the Wildcats, who will undoubtedly turn heads and become a cooler focus of Big Ten coaches after the win.

Fat Guy Field Goal

Fans of fat guy touchdowns, fat guy first downs and fat guy wide-out catches have a new hero: Penn State freshman kicker Joey Julius. The 5-foot-10, 259-pound placekicker embraces the image with a nickname "The Big Toe," but his Nittany Lions lost over the weekend, 27-10 to Temple.

College futbol ==============

Coming back home, Utah Valley midfielder Lucas Cawley scored a 98th-minute goal over to give the Wolverines a 2-1 extra-time win over Pacific during an invitational game in Las Vegas on Friday.

But the way he did it deserves as much respect.

The Viewmont High grad redirects a corner kick from teammate Aaron Meyer past the Pacific goalkeeper with a fantastic bicycle kick that also earned him mention on SportsCenter's Top 10 plays Friday night.

Not bad for the former Deseret News Mr. Soccer.
