EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A Utah father put his latest creation, playing cards made out of Kevlar, to the test in target practice.

Local YouTuber The Late Boy Scout, who reviews firearms and other outdoor equipment, reached out to Kyle Sorensen after hearing about his potentially bullet-proof playing cards. Sorensen's cards are currently being offered on Kickstarter as part of his fifth Sly Kly project.

Since the playing cards are made out of the same material as ballistic vests and other armor, Sorensen had been curious about whether the playing cards could stop a bullet. Connecting with The Late Boy Scout to make a video was fortuitous, providing an opportunity to finally see what the cards are capable of.

The duo started out by shooting a regular deck of playing cards, which was no match for a .22 long rifle. Then they placed a deck of Sorensen's Kevlar cards in a holder for two tests. While the top cards were damaged both times, the deck prevented .22LR and 9mm rounds from passing through all the way.

So far, Sorensen's Kickstarter for Kevlar and carbon fiber playing cards has raised just under $40,000. He surpassed his original $25,000 goal within 48 hours.
