OGDEN — Crews put out two separate fires overnight. One caused $100,000 in damage to a business; the other displaced 12 people.

In Ogden, firefighters responded to Williams International, a company that builds gas turbine engines near the Ogden-Hinckley Airport, around 3:15 a.m.

They found two unrelated fires — a grass fire on the perimeter of the building and near railroad tracks, and a fire inside the building. Crews quickly extinguished the grass fire.

The incident inside was a metal fire in the company's metal dust collection system. Crews evacuated the building and used onsite extinguishers specifically designed to fight metal fires.

They also set up large ventilation fans to remove smoke from the building. One person was treated on the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage. There was no word on a cause.

In Midvale, fire at a four-plex displaced seven adults and five children located on Foxbridge Drive, near 8000 South and State Street.

The fire likely started around 11 p.m. Sunday inside a laundry room, then spread to the three other apartments, according to Capt. Dan Brown of the Unified Fire Department. All the residents had already evacuated when crews arrived.

A second alarm was called out, bringing in crews from West Jordan, Sandy and Murray. It took them 35 minutes to extinguish the flames.

The cause is still under investigation.

Brown had no damage total yet. The Red Cross was helping the displaced families.
