Man wanted for questioning in Jordan River shooting

SALT LAKE CITY — Police are asking for help locating a man known to spend time in the area where a homeless man was shot and killed on Monday.

Christian Fuentes, 22, is wanted for questioning in the death. The body of Anthony Paul Hernandez, 36, was found near 800 N. Riverside Drive about 3 p.m. Monday by people walking along the Jordan River trail. Neighbors reported hearing a gunshot shortly before the body was discovered.

"Fuentes is known to frequent the area around Riverside Park in the Rose Park area," Salt Lake police said in a statement Wednesday. "Please use caution as Fuentes is a documented gang member."

Fuentes is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 11 inches tall and 155 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information about Fuentes is asked to call 801-799-3000 or 911. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by text message to 274637. Texts must begin with the keyword TIPSLCPD.
