SALT LAKE CITY — Reaching out to another person is a two-way blessing more often than not.

That's what our readers told us this week as they shared their experiences of times they have reached out and others have reached out.

If you've had an experience you would like to share, email crosenlof@ksl.com with a brief summary (100 words or fewer) about it.

On warming the cold:

Nat C.

“I participated in the Goldilocks bike ride at Daybreak this year. About 10 miles into the ride it began to rain, and I quickly became soaked through. I began to shiver so uncontrollably I quit the course and returned to my car, but was so frozen I had a hard time opening my door or even removing wet clothing.

“A woman who had just returned to her vehicle in front of me saw me and didn't even hesitate to offer assistance. She threw me warm clothes, drove me to paramedics standing by, rallied her friend’s assistance, and they stayed and sat with me until I was stable, (which was at least an hour.) Surely these women were also cold, hungry and tired, but they stayed and comforted me and even pampered me with hot chocolate! What amazing women. Thank you, Merilee and your friends!”

Cheri G.“My granddaughter and I were out to an early dinner together at Village Inn when a gentleman came in and sat a few tables down from us and got on his laptop and phone to work. At the same time, three elderly people were enjoying their supper as well. One of them was on oxygen.

“When we finished our meal and got to the cash register, come to find out, the man who was on his computer had paid for our meal as he left.

“I thought that was the nicest gesture ever, not ever happening to me before. So, thought I would pay it forward and bought the three elderly people their meal when we were leaving.

“They were as happy as I was about it and all waved to me and my granddaughter as we left. I wanted to get out of there before they found out, but that's OK. The look on their faces was priceless. Made me a happy camper, and my granddaughter was amazed.”

On following the example of others:

Judy H.

“I would like to give my perspective. As a cashier at a store in Lindon I have had the blessing of doing this (paying for people’s items) a few times. It is a great feeling to do take part in surprising people like this. I thank all those who do it.”

On feeding someone’s child:

Nora S.

“I was at Café Rio one day with my two daughters. There were a couple of LDS missionaries about six people ahead of us. I went to the cashier and told her not to let them pay, that I would pay for it. The missionaries were surprised when they got to the checkout and didn’t have to pay.

“There were also a couple of missionaries behind us who were talking to my daughter. I had a Café Rio gift card, so I just gave it to them and told them lunch was on me. I had four sons who served missions all over the world, and I know that people fed my boys, and I just wanted to feed someone else’s sons.”
