PROVO — A few thousand locals and visitors are expected to gather Saturday at Provo’s Spring Festival to enjoy local food trucks, music, art, outdoor adventure and family activities.

The Spring Festival was launched last year, evolving from decades of a community Easter egg hunt, in an effort to bring in more participants and meet more community needs, according to Eric Layland, Provo parks and recreation event coordinator.

“The purpose of this event is to connect residents and visitors to community organizations, resources and experiences,” Layland said.

About 85 activities will be available for participants to choose from, such as a springtime maze, face painting, demo paddle boarding with AirGo Paddle Boarding, chalk hair with Paul Mitchell, an obstacle course, animal shelters, gardens, Zorbs from BubbleBalls, ridable tractor races, yoga and more, Layland said.

Event entrance is free, as are most of the activities other than the local art and the food trucks, which will include Art City Donuts, Border Cuisine, Fiore Wood-fired Pizza, Cupbop, Kona Ice, Special Courses, La Table Crepes and The Mouse Trap Truck.

The food trucks, the BubbleBalls and the pony rides will be “massively crowded,” Layland said. The BubbleBalls, which are worn as a suit, can be used to play games such as soccer or roll down a hill.

Several prizes will also be awarded, such as a race entry for the Utah Valley Marathon and a bike from Mad Dog Cycles.

Local artists will sell their artwork at the event, and local musicians Festive People, The Blue Aces and Westward The Tide will perform.

“What we’re really trying to do is to help people find hobbies and organizations that they’re interested in being involved in, and so we hope that people will come and discover new opportunities that they don’t even know were available in the community,” Layland said. “So it’s both important for the organizations to find residents in the community and for the residents to discover what’s going on right here in Provo.”

Provo’s Spring Festival, which is sponsored by Coca-Cola, will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Rock Canyon Park, 2620 N 1200 East.
