FRESNO- The Fresno Grizzlies scored four runs in the first inning and then held on for a 5-4 win over the Salt Lake Bees on Thursday night and complete a four game series sweep. The Bees had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Kyle Kubitza, but with two runners on base and one out, Fresno strung together three consecutive doubles to score four runs.
The Bees open their season Friday at Smith's Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm, with a fireworks show following the game.
Salt Lake pulled to within one run with two runs in the fourth on RBI doubles by Josh Rutledge and Carlos Perez. The Grizzlies scored one in the fifth, but the Bees got that run back in the sixth on a run scoring single by Kyle Kubitza.
Salt Lake starter Alex Sanabia (0-2) took the loss, as he went three and two-third innings and allowed five runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Three Bees' relievers, Steven Hensley, Frank Herrmann and Atahualpa Severino combined to throw four and one-third scoreless innings. Kubitza led the Bees' fourteen hit attack with four hits and two runs batted in, while Perez added two hits and one RBI.
