Spring in Utah is the perfect time to give your New Year's Resolutions to get healthy another go and luckily for you, there's an app for that. From tracking your sleep behavior and inspiring you to make better food choices to helping you escape the zombie horde, these seven fitness apps have just what you need to get motivated and stay on track.

MyFitnessPal (free) is one of the most popular fitness apps and is primarily used to track calories. The app boasts more than 5 million foods in its database and allows users to track exercise as well as connect with over 50 other devices and apps, like Fitbit, Jawbone UP, Garmin, MapMyFitness and Runkeeper.

If you want to get fit but don't have a lot of time, 7-Minute Workout Challenge ($1.99) is for you. A team of fitness experts has put together 12 workouts that take just 7 minutes to complete. But buyer beware: You will be challenged, so come ready to bring it. For something a bit less strenuous, try the Johnson & Johnson Official 7 Minute Workout App (free).

Want to know exactly what's in the food you buy, and how to make better choices? Fooducate (free) scans your food and gives you the low-down on all the ingredients, then uses an algorithm to give each item a score. "Minimally processed, real foods with intrinsic nutrients will score better than processed foods that are poor in built-in nutrients," the app's makers say. Fooducate also suggests alternatives to items so you can choose more nutritious foods instead.

Does the criticism of others motivate you to work harder? Try Carrot Fit, the app that puts a fitness drill sergeant in your pocket. Dubbed a "judgmental weight tracker" by Forbes, Carrot "dishes out harsh criticism ... with thick sarcasm and motivational smack talk." Users of this paid app ($2.99) must drop a pound to earn a new tip.

It's been called "one of the most innovative uses of the zombie trope" by lifehacker.com: an app that turns your runs into a race for survival. Zombies, Run! ($3.99) combines complex storylines with first-person gameplay and audio effects to put you in the middle of the action. As you run, you'll hear the sounds of the approaching zombie hordes over your chosen soundtrack as well as instructions on completing various missions that will help you unlock achievements and gather items to help you build your home base.

Fitness apps aren't just for helping you break a sweat; Sleep Cycle ($.99) promises to help you get truly restorative sleep. It collects and analyzes your data, then wakes you during your lightest sleep phase so you awake refreshed — and ready to escape the zombie apocalypse. Users can wake to their own music or one of the app's 15 different selections. But despite all the science, if you're really not ready to face the day, the app does include a snooze button.
