SALT LAKE CITY — Kindness can take the form of open arms sometimes.

This week, we hear from a family with a special-needs child whose neighbors welcomed them after a rough move.

On having open hearts:

Katy E.

"We recently moved and, needless to say, it was way overwhelming. Our neighbors opened their arms, hearts and doors to us. Goodies showed up at our doors with smiling faces. So many people had talents to offer our special-needs child. Secret donations of money, food and love were given and greatly appreciated! We have felt warm welcomes everywhere we turned.

"These wonderful acts of kindness have made a significant impact on our family's life. We are indeed grateful for all the heavenly angels sent with love."

On making good karma:

Gary H.

"My daughter was on her way home after her 10-hour shift at Huntsman. She was driving along Foothill Drive when her tire went flat. Since it was rush hour, it was a scary situation. As she was getting ready to call me for help, there was a knock on her car window by a very kind man wearing a Hogle Zoo shirt and driving a brown truck. He mentioned that he had some daughters and would hope someone would help them if they were in the same situation.

"He sat in the dirt along the side of the road and changed her flat tire and he wouldn’t take any money for his time or effort. She was in tears of joy and appreciation when she called us to let us know what had happened. I just want to recognize this kind man and thank him for his service. Thanks for the chance to share our story."

On sharing your knowledge:

Rebekah G.

"I was at the grocery store in line with my baby girl. There were two women in front of me using their coupons to buy diapers and wipes, and they brought their total down from $150 to $6. I was using my WIC checks, so as they were leaving I asked how they did that. The women took the time to show me the websites and then they put a pack of diapers and a huge bag of wipes in my cart before I thanked them and they left.

"I held it together till I got to my car and then I just began to cry. The act of kindness had touched me. How could they have known I needed diapers and wipes so bad? Thank you, couponing angels!"

On giving the warmth of a coat:

Brent H.

"One cold, winter morning I was involved in an accident at the intersection of 5600 South and 3500 West in Roy. I was uninjured, but my car was totaled. When I got out of my car, I quickly realized I didn't have a coat with me. As I stood in the cold waiting for police to arrive, a lady who had witnessed the accident approached me and offered me a coat.

"This stranger's gift took care of my desperate need for warmth and allowed me to report on the accident to police, make arrangements for the car and find a way to work. It was then I realized that I had no idea who this person was, or how to contact them to return the coat.

"Over the years I have thought of this selfless act and how much comfort it provided me in a very difficult situation, and wished I could find a way to thank the giver. My hope is that they might see this note and at very least know how much their kindness meant to me."

On reaching out to a stranger:

Dawn K.

"I've been out of work and have children, and as I had no means of getting groceries, I placed an ad on KSL Classifieds' charity section. A gentleman said he could meet me at Winco and buy $100 worth of groceries. After doing so he also filled my gas tank. I couldnt thank him enough and am still so grateful for Jason's kindness."
