MILLCREEK — A man is in custody for his alleged involvement in a fatal shooting Sunday.

Unified Police were called to 1509 E. 3350 S. at 1:59 a.m. with reports of a shooting where a man, identified by police as Ahmed Ali, 29, killed Modibo Diallo, 33.

The shooting happened in the basement of the residence after Ali, a reported acquaintance of Diallo, showed up to the party, police said. Ali and Diallo went inside, had a verbal argument then witness heard gunshots, according to police.

The witnesses went downstairs before police arrived to see what happened and confronted the shooter. He fled before Unified Police arrived.

Emergency personnel transported Diallo to an area hospital where he later died.

"As officers continued to search the area Unified Police received a call at 1705 E. Millcreek Circle at about 2:18 a.m.," Lt. Justin Hoyal of Unified police said. "The complaint said that there was a male matching the suspect description on their front porch, knocking on their door and (he) also had a handgun."

According to Hoyal, Ali then made his way into the garage of the residence. Once police arrived, they were able to get the residents out of the house safely.

Officers called the SWAT team who began negotiations. Around 5:30 a.m., Ali surrendered without further incident, according to the police.

The firearm used has not yet been located by detectives, who have been searching the area thoroughly. Detectives have asked anyone who locates the firearm or has any information about the homicide to please contact the UPD dispatch at 801-743-7000.
