TOOELE — Hazmat crews responded to a rail car leaking sulfuric acid near I-80 Saturday morning.

Around 7:15 a.m., the North Tooele Fire District was notified of the leak coming from a train traveling west close to the Delle exit, by mile marker 70.

About 40-50 gallons of sulfuric acid ended up on the ground, but did not cause any danger because of the remote location where it spilled, officials said.

Hazmat crews from the Tooele County Sheriff's Office and Unified Fire Authority assisted the North Tooele Fire District in gathering information.

Authorities from Union Pacific said they were coordinating a cleanup effort.

An investigation continues into what caused the leak.
