HIGHLAND — Residents are calling for change at a Utah County intersection after a mom and a daughter were critically injured in a crash Monday night.

The intersection of 118th North and Highland Blvd. has no traffic light, with drivers that come down the backside of Suncrest in Draper at very fast speeds.

Cathy King, whose daughter was in a similar accident, couldn't believe it when she drove past the intersection Monday night and saw a scene she had witnessed before.

"As soon as I saw the lights and the wreckage, all the memories kind of came flooding back,” King said.

118th North and Highland Blvd. had once again become the scene of another terrible crash.

King's daughter had one there 3 years ago.

"I just started to get really teary. Something really needs to be done about this intersection,” King said.

King is now writing a letter to the father of 16-year-old Maylee Anderson, who was seriously injured in the crash on Monday night.

There is hope. Our daughter is walking and talking, with similar injuries — she's kind of our miracle.

Maylee's mother, Christine, was also in that accident and is in a hospital recovering.

"There is hope. Our daughter is walking and talking, with similar injuries — she's kind of our miracle," King said.

Highland City Councilwoman Jessie Schoenfeld said the city is now looking closely at that intersection.

"My heart breaks for them. Nobody wants to see that happen to anybody,” Schoenfeld said.

Schoenfeld said all the facts still need to be gathered, including from Monday night’s crash, but she feels the city should do whatever possible to make it safer.

"If it is dangerous, if it is happening too many times, and I understand, one time for one family is one too many times," Schoenfeld said.

King feels the same way.

"I have seen bikers hit there, near misses by pedestrians. It's just a really dangerous road right there," King said.

Several other motorists, pedestrians and cyclists have been hurt at the same intersection as well.
