KEOTA, Iowa (AP) — Hillary Clinton says it's "important to stand up to bullies wherever we are."
She was responding to a question from a student at an Iowa high school today about how to deal with bullying. But Clinton made it clear she wasn't just talking about the classroom or the schoolyard.
She said, "We shouldn't let anybody bully his way into the presidency. Because that is not who we are as Americans."
Clinton challenged Donald Trump more directly by saying that Trump's rhetoric on Muslims is "not only dangerous, it's shameful." She said it plays into the hands of violent jihadists.
Her comments about Trump come after he labeled Clinton "disgusting" for using the restroom during a commercial break at the last Democratic debate. Trump also used crude language -- a slang word for male genitalia -- to describe her primary loss to Barack Obama in 2008.
A Clinton spokeswoman today took to Twitter to label Trump's language "degrading." Jennifer Palmieri said, "We are not responding to Trump, but everyone who understands the humiliation this degrading language inflicts on all women should."
