LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is recovering after undergoing knee surgery Wednesday, a spokeswoman said.
Alice Stewart said the former Arkansas governor injured his knee on the campaign trail three weeks ago in South Carolina and underwent surgery at a Little Rock hospital. She declined to give details about the injury.
She said his busy schedule kept him from getting the surgery sooner and having it done close to Thanksgiving will allow him time to recuperate before returning to campaigning. He'll be back on the trail in Iowa starting Monday, she said.
"He'll be spending Thanksgiving in Little Rock with his family, including his five precious grandchildren," Stewart said. "That's his favorite part of Thanksgiving now, or any holiday really."
She said Huckabee had hoped to go duck hunting while back in Arkansas, but instead will spend the weekend recovering.
Huckabee, 60, is making his second bid for president after running unsuccessfully in 2008. He served as Arkansas governor from 1996 to 2007.
