LAS VEGAS (AP) — U.S. Sen. Harry Reid is expected to point to Nevada's impact on the presidential race on the eve of the election's first Democratic debate, at a Washington Post forum.

The longtime Democratic Nevada senator is scheduled to appear at the pre-debate event held at the MGM Grand casino-hotel on the Las Vegas Strip.

MGM CEO Jim Murren is also expected to speak at the event where policymakers, Democratic and Republican strategists and journalists will offer predictions for the debate and the presidential race.

Reid is retiring from the Senate at the end of his term in 2016.

The Senate minority leader says he also plans to hold a press conference Tuesday afternoon at the Wynn Las Vegas where the debate will be held later that evening.
