RENO, Nev. (AP) — The crowded field of candidates who want to be Reno's first new mayor in 12 years has been narrowed from 18 to two.
City councilwoman Hillary Schieve (SHEE'-vee) and Reno city planner Ray Pezonella advance to the general election in November as the top two finishers in Tuesday's non-partisan primary.
Pezonella enjoyed the endorsement of outgoing Mayor Bob Cashell, who was prevented from seeking a fourth term by term limits.
With less than 15 precinct results outstanding, Schieve had 26 percent of the vote and Pezonella 18 percent. Next was Reno businesswoman Idora Silver with 11 percent.
Eddie Lorton had 9 percent. He was the anti-establishment candidate who led a legal challenge over term limits that sidelined two favorites, city councilman Dwight Dortch and former council member Jessica Sferraza.
