CHICAGO (AP) — Republican nominee for Illinois governor Bruce Rauner (ROW'-nur) says Gov. Pat Quinn is a failure and "we're going to get him gone this November."
Rauner spoke Tuesday after defeating state Sens. Kirk Dillard and Bill Brady and Treasurer Dan Rutherford (ROOTH'-ur-furd) in the GOP primary. Quinn easily won the Democratic nomination.
Rauner is a wealthy businessman from Winnetka. He says Quinn has chased employers out of Illinois, raised taxes and driven up unemployment.
Rauner says the best way to get people working again is to run Illinois like a business. He says the choice for voters in November is "between failure of the past and a new day."
Quinn says he's a champion of the working class who will fight to raise the minimum wage.
