THE PLAYGROUND — Toddlers are full of dramatic emotions, sometimes good, sometimes bad.
There’s nothing like the joy of a tot that leads to uncontrollable laughter. But there’s also nothing like the tantrum of a tot that leads to swinging limbs and inconsolable tears.
It’s easy to think of small children in this sort of dichotomy, hysterical in both joy and sorrow. But there’s a special category that doesn’t get much attention — toddler drama.
Sure, you can call the extreme happy-sad scale drama, but I’m talking about the pretending and the pushing of limits as they try to figure how to move and be in the world. They’re watching us and learning how to... massage a situation to their favor.
The toddler in this featured video surely wants something. It could be that he doesn’t want to get on the swing presented before him, it could be that he wants attention in general, or it could be something that only his baby brain could understand.
Frankly, it doesn’t matter what he wants, because the drama he enacts is the most precious and hilarious thing you’ll see today.

Here’s the scene: He is standing before a swing and starts lightly pushing it. As it swing back, he gets "hit," and he goes down hard. Now just falling on his butt would be one thing, but this kid takes it to the limit with a fall and two flops to show just how mean that ol’ swing is.
If comedies ever won Oscars these days, he would get "Best Actor in a Short Film" for sure. Alternatively, if film acting isn’t his thing, he could certainly use this technique on the soccer pitch.
