SALT LAKE CITY — What a difference a just few days can make.

On Saturday we watched a practice from a frozen tundra at Rice-Eccles, where receivers dropped pass after pass and the team was rewarded with running wind sprints for the final 45 minutes of practice.

Not only was Monday afternoon warmer, but the players looked significantly sharper out on the field.

The receivers nearly caught everything that was thrown their way. Check out the clip of WR Quinton Pedroza making an incredible one handed grab in traffic in the video player above.

I loved the physicality and the toughness on both sides of the ball.

Justin Thomas had a few terrific plays at cornerback, but as you can tell from our interview with him, he is still a little camera shy. Give him time, he is only a freshman.

RB Karl Williams broke off some nice runs - watch highlights of him in his interview clip.

We also caught up with Coach Morgan Scalley to hear his thoughts about how the defense is shaping up so far through spring camp.

The Utes are set to practice again on Thursday.

Utah football: Spring practice, day 4; Utes open softball stadium

In the inaugural game held at Utah Softball Stadium, the Utes dropped a 4-1 decision to Utah Valley Tuesday in a non-conference matchup.

Utah (13-14-1) had seven hits, including a 2-for-3 effort by senior second baseman Jackie Sweet, which included the first Ute hit in the facility, a single through the left side of the UVU defense.

The Ute had chances in the fifth and sixth innings, but could not erase its deficit.

Utah's Senior Woman Administrator Mary Bowman threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
