This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

According to the Energy Information Administration, Utah is ranked eleventh in the country in crude oil production and 10th in natural gas gross production... What that means is Utah has approximately 11,200 wells in production within the state...... Of course this is a huge economic engine, but taking oil and gas out of the ground also presents environmental concerns, some of which JT Martin and his team at Integrated Water Management are addressing....

Utah's oil reserves are coming from ancient lakes. So, when the oil is brought out of the ground, it's mixed with water. The oil is put into the tanks on site and the crude oil is then separated from the water. The water must then be dealt with so the impurities are removed from it....And at Integrated Water Management, that's exactly what they do...

The trucks pull water in the storage tanks; up to three percent of the water has oil in it..... Oil companies bring the water to Integrated Water Management who separates the water from the oil... Then, it's run through a cleansing process and the oil is prepared for the refineries....

JT says the most environmentally sustainable place is to put the water right back into the ground where it came from in the first place.... about a mile or two below the surface. It's back to its natural state by that point, so it's safe and it is the responsible thing to do.

The business started four years ago and is in a state-of-the-art environmental mitigation facility in Duchesne, complete with about 20 employees.... Not only is the process cleaning up the water, but it's also collecting thousands of barrels of oil, from crude oil left over in the water. This is just one of a few different environmental mitigation services Integrated Water Management offers....Because energy can be a topic of concern and we'll be looking for new ways to get more value from the resources that we already have, JT and his crew at Integrated Water Management will be busy for a long time to come...

For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
