PROVO — Kaysha Love of Herriman High School is just a freshman, but you couldn't tell after watching her performance at the Utah track and field championships Saturday at BYU.

Love, a former gymnast, almost beat her own 4A record in the 100 meters with a time of 11.94 seconds, edging out Timpview's Lauren Baxter for the title.

Love also defeated Baxter in the 200 meter event, helping Herriman claim the 4A girls state championship.

Jordan Sophomore Austin Kafentzis defended his 5A javelin title, but it was much closer than expected. Kafentzis holds a state record of 199 feet, but weather conditions made any record setting impossible. He edged out Mason Woodward of Syracuse by just under two feet to win first place.

The fastest 100 meter time in any classification goes to another underclassmen, Jacopo Spano of Woods Cross. He edged out teammate and future Stanford football player Sean Barton with a time of 10.77 seconds. The junior also won the 200 meters, 4A long jump title and anchored the Wildcats' first place finish in the 4x100 meter relay. His big day helped the Wildcats claim the 4A Boys title.

Ben Saarel of Park City had a meet to remember. He set state records in the 800 meters, 1600 meters and 3200 meters.

Ogden runner Sarah Feeny set a new state record in the girls 1600 meters with a time of 4:50.04, defending her title.

The Davis boys and girls claimed their third consecutive 5A state titles.
