SALT LAKE CITY — The Lone Peak basketball team can add a national title to their list of accomplishments this season.

The Knights have been named National Champions by maxpreps.com after finishing the season No. 1 in their Xcellent 25 poll.

They just completed an impressive 26-1 season and won a third consecutive state title. Not only did they dominate in-state competition by an average of 30 points but also dominated out-of-state competition at prestigious invitationals. They traveled to places like Florida, Chicago and Milwaukee and held their own against the best programs in the nation.

The Knights' only loss this season was to Monteverde Academy (Fla.), which is a private college preparatory school that uses post-graduate players. Teams that use post-graduate players are not included in the MaxPreps poll.

Senior guard Nick Emery was named Mr. Basketball by the Deseret News, and three other Knights starters were named first team all-state.

Lone Peak received national attention during their story was featured in the New York Times and on NBC's Today Show.
