BYU's Tyler Haws played 12 minutes and scored two points, following up on a 11-minute, four-point performance in Team USA's tourney-opening win over the United Arab Emirates on Sunday.

Haws' Monday stat line saw him go 1-for-4 from the field, including 0-for-1 from the three-point line; his tally also noted a single rebound, a turnover and a foul. Haws' lone basket came with 1:10 left in the game, after grabbing a rebound at the defensive end, then helping to keep the ball alive at the offensive end before converting an alley-oop lay-in off a pass from Yogi Ferrell.

Through two games, Haws is shooting 28.6% (2-for-7 FG), and is 0-for-2 from the arc. A starter at BYU, he's coming off the bench with Team USA and is feeling his way along as a role player on a very deep roster.

Head coach Bob McKillop says one of the reasons he chose Haws for the team was his resiliency and mental toughness, and I'm confident that Haws will yet find many opportunities to make significant contributions as the U.S. navigates the preliminaries and moves into the knock-out phase of competition. The shots aren't dropping right now, but he's too good a shooter to stay down for long.

After a day off on Tuesday, Team USA returns to action against Sweden on Wednesday. The two toughest games of the preliminary round will be the final two games of Group C play, as the U.S. meets Australia on Thursday and Canada on Friday. The Aussies are also 2-0 in group play after a 70-53 win over Sweden on Monday; Canada is expected to cruise past the United Arab Emirates in their Monday meeting.
