Chances are you’ve imagined yourself as a superhero at some point in your life. Unfortunately, many Utah drivers are attempting to live out their fantasies behind the wheel. From superhuman speed to cat-like reflexes, here are the five superpowers that Utah drivers think they have.
Superhuman Speed
You’re driving down the road when the light turns yellow. You speed up and pass the threshold right as the light turns red. “Phew, that was close. Next time I’ll slow down,” you say to yourself. As you glance in the rear-view mirror, you see not one, not two, but three cars run the red light behind you. Unfortunately, this situation is too common on Utah roads. If you have to speed up to get through a yellow light, you should have stopped at the intersection instead. While the Flash might be able to run a red light unscathed, you (or others around you) won’t always be as lucky.
Cat-Like Reflexes
When driving on the highway, stop pretending like you’re Spiderman and give the car in front of you some space. Tailgating won’t get you to your destination any faster and puts you at risk of getting in a crash. While you may think your reflexes are cat-like, you won’t have enough time to react if the driver in front of you slams on his brakes.
Superhuman Strength
We all know that one friend who refuses to wear a seat belt in the back seat. If you’re in an unbuckled car crash, your chances of survival aren’t good. Plus your body can turn into a human projectile and kill you or others in the car. Only the Hulk is strong enough to “mom-arm” his way out of a car crash.
Magical Multitasker
When you lead a busy life, your car can serve as a beauty salon, restaurant or office. When you’re driving, though, you need to make sure that you’re focusing solely on the road. No one can text, eat a bowl of cereal, apply makeup and drive in a straight line. Unless you have telekinesis like Jean Grey from X-Men, you shouldn’t even attempt any of those activities behind the wheel. When you’re driving, just drive. It’s as simple as that.
Super Metabolism
When you have a superhuman metabolism level like Captain America, drinking and driving is never an issue. As humans, though, we need to consider how much we drink before we get behind the wheel. Every 51 minutes, someone dies in the United States from a drunk driving crash. Know your limit—the legal one—and don’t put your life or anyone else’s at risk.
When it comes down to it, you’re not a superhero from a DC or Marvel comic book. Make sure not to act like one when you’re behind the wheel. Buckle up and stay alert when you’re on Utah roads for your chance of living a super life.
