Man arrested for 'terroristic threats' on Facebook, police say

LAYTON — A Layton man was arrested for allegedly making what police call "terroristic threats." Investigators said the man threatened on his Facebook page to stab people at the Layton Hills Mall.

The Facebook post of William Meyer, 20, has since been deleted.

When police were alerted to the threats Sunday afternoon, they took them seriously because officers said they have a history with Meyer.

On Sunday, police did a search for Meyer at the mall. Officers later found him at home in Layton, Monday, where he was taken into custody for questioning. Later that night, Meyer was booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of:

Utah Criminal Code
According to Utah's Criminal Code - (Title 76 Chapter 5 Section 107.3) there are a number of ways a person can be charged with making a threat of terrorism.

In this case, the code says it's against the law to threaten bodily injury or death, and it's against the law to intimidate or coerce a civilian population.

The threat, according to Utah's Criminal Code, may be expressed or implied. In this case, it was expressed on Facebook.

  • Obstructing justice
  • Riot
  • Terroristic threat
  • Outstanding warrant

Layton police did not go into the history they have with Meyer, but said when his name came up in connection with these threats, officers felt there was potential for someone to get hurt.
