SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz announced Friday that they have signed head coach Quin Snyder to a long-term contract extension to helm the franchise.

Snyder was signed to a three-year contract in the summer of 2014, with a team option for a fourth year. This contract extension goes beyond that to lock Snyder up with the franchise beyond 2018. The Deseret News' Jody Genessy is reporting that Snyder's deal locks up the coach through 2020-21:

I'm being told Jazz coach Quin Snyder's contract has been extended through the 2020-21 season. Not sure financial terms. — Jody Genessy (@DJJazzyJody) May 6, 2016

Snyder's new contract gives the Jazz's head coach top-5 NBA job security. Only Dallas' Rick Carlisle has a contract for longer, through 2022. Three head coaches (Scott Brooks, Tom Thibodeau, and Luke Walton), all who signed their deals with new teams this offseason, also have deals extending through 2021.

"With this contract extension, we are declaring our confidence in Coach Snyder’s ability to continue to develop the Utah Jazz into a championship team," Gail Miller, owner of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies said in a release. “The Miller family recognizes the significant progress made under his leadership, and we are excited about the direction we are headed.”

The Jazz have improved over Snyder's tenure as coach. Before Snyder was hired, the Jazz ranked as the 25th best offensive team and the 29th best defensive team in Ty Corbin's final year. Snyder has improved upon those figures, leading the Jazz to the 16th best offense and 6th best defense in 2015-16.

“I am very grateful for this gesture by the Miller family and the Utah Jazz and appreciative of their belief in me to continue to lead this team,” Snyder said in the release.
