OGDEN — Only one thing that went wrong for Layton Christian Academy in their 78-38 blowout win over the visiting Enterprise Wolves in the quarterfinal round of the 2A boys state basketball tournament? The first quarter.

Shots weren’t falling for the Eagles, as they looked rushed to open up the game. On the other end, Enterprise started the game with back-to-back 3-pointers and enjoyed an 8-0 run on their way to a 14-11 first quarter lead. But that was as far as the Wolves would come to competing Thursday when the Eagles turned up the intensity.

Layton Christian switched to a full-court press in the second quarter and smothered Enterprise, which got things flowing on the offensive end as well as the Eagles scored 18 points off of 16 turnovers in the first half. The result? A scoreless second quarter for the Wolves and a 22-point performance for the Eagles to start the assault.

Despite the already sizable lead, Layton Christian didn’t let up in the second half and continued to press Enterprise the remainder of the game. Enterprise fared better in the second half behind the 3-point line and earned some occasional buckets, but Layton Christian forced an additional eight turnovers for 9 points in the second half to put more distance on the game.

Layton Christian had four players in double figures and was led by Lino Saez’s 20 points and 16 rebounds on 9-of-14 shooting. He was joined by Micah Petty and Sam Muller’s 11 points apiece, and Dominique Ramikson’s 10 points in the win. Enterprise had one player in double figures in the loss, a 12-point, seven-rebound performance by Carter Thomas.

Layton Christian advances to the semifinal round of the tournament and will play Rowland Hall on Friday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dee Events Center in Ogden. The game can be viewed live on KSL.com.
