SALT LAKE CITY — Here's three interesting happenings from the world of sports in today's From Left Field.
1. Cam Newton explains his post-Super Bowl walkout
Cam Newton had his first chance to meet with the media Tuesday since walking off stage shortly after the Carolina Panthers lost to the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50. USA Today reported what happened when he was asked about his reaction following the game.
"You show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser," Newton said. "If you want me to conform, I'm not that guy. If you want me to be that type of person, I'm not that. I am happy to say that. This league is a great league with or without me. I understand that. I am my own person. I take pride in that."
Give Newton credit: he's standing by who he is.
2. Duke's Grayson Allen intentionally trips opponent
Last month, we saw a player intentionally trip a referee in college basketball. Now, Duke's Grayson Allen intentionally tripped a player during Monday night's game against Louisville.
Allen was given a flagrant foul, penalty one for his actions, but stayed in the game.
3. Joe Johnson's crossover, then amazing buzzer beater
Joe Johnson had the Nuggets exactly where he wanted them twice during Monday night's NBA action. First, he found himself isolated on Nurkic, who he made fall over with the simple crossover:
Then, with his team trailing by two with a second to go, Johnson hit this tremendous banked-in three to win the game for the Brooklyn Nets.
No word on if Johnson yelled "That's 7-time All-Star Joe Johnson!" as he left the floor.
