Lyon College hires 2 assistant football coaches

BATESVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Lyon College head football coach Kirk Kelley has announced the hiring of two assistant coaches.

Kelley said Wednesday that Justin Heard is joining the staff and will coach safeties and Andy Rogers will be an assistant on the offensive staff.

Heard is a former University of Central Arkansas linebacker and was named honorable mention All-Southland Conference in 2012.

Rogers was a member of the Batesville High School state championship team in 2003 and later served in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked for the Independence County Sheriff's Office.

Lyon is restarting its football program that was dropped in 1951 and will being play in the NAIA Central States Football League starting in 2015.
