Wagner leads Seahawks to late win over Tampa Bay

SALT LAKE CITY — At home, there may be no better team in the NFL than Seattle.

With an intimidating fan base, a stadium built to hold sound in and one of the league’s most physical defenses, Seattle finds a way to win games at home.

It took every single ounce of magic in the stands of CenturyLink Field on Sunday, as the Seahawks rallied late to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 27-24.

Utah State alumnus Bobby Wagner registered 11 tackles and 1.5 sacks for Seattle in the win. Also, fellow Aggies alum Robert Turbin had eight carries for 37 yards. Former Weber State offensive lineman Paul McQuistan also started for Seattle.

Several University of Utah players had marquee performances. Chargers safety Eric Weddle made 15 tackles, but San Diego fell to the Washington Redskins, 30-24. Paul Kruger registered two tackles as the Browns beat Baltimore, 24-18. Also, Star Lotulelei made three tackles in Carolina’s 34-10 win over Atlanta.

The Dolphins prevailed over the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday Night Football, and a handful of former Utes greatly contributed in the win. Koa Misi made five tackles, Derrick Shelby made two tackles and had a half sack and Paul Soliai made three tackles for Miami in a 22-10 win over the Bengals.

Also, Houston’s Brice McCain made a tackle in a loss to Indianapolis, and Stevenson Sylvester made a tackle for Pittsburgh in a blowout loss to New England.

Alex Smith completed 19 of 29 passes for 124 yards for Kansas City, as the Chiefs outlasted the Bills, 23-13. Sean Smith returned an interception for a touchdown and made two tackles.

Steve Smith caught four passes for 52 yards for the Panthers.

BYU’s Brett Keisel made one tackle for Pittsburgh, as the Steelers lost to New England, 55-31.

Highland’s Haloti Ngata made four tackles for Baltimore in the Ravens’ loss to Cleveland. Cottonwood’s Stanley Havili caught one pass in Indianapolis’ 27-24 win over Houston.
