MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Trayce Jackson-Davis had 27 points and 16 rebounds, both career highs, to lead Indiana's second-half takeover of Minnesota. The Hoosiers beat the Gophers 68-56 for just their second win in the last seven games. Race Thompson added nine points and 10 rebounds and Devonte Green scored 11 points, as Indiana moved out of the bottom four of the Big Ten. Marcus Carr and Payton Willis each scored 12 points for Minnesota, which went just 4 for 25 from 3-point range.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Juwan Howard refers to Zavier Simpson as the Tom Brady of Michigan basketball, with the point guard leading and directing the Wolverines.Simpson did just that, scoring 16 points and five assists and two steals, while Franz Wagner added 12 to hand Rutgers its first loss at the RAC this season, 60-52.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — An investigation found five former patients allege a late University of Michigan physician sexually abused them during exams going back decades. The school in Ann Arbor said Wednesday it set up a hotline for others to come forward with information about Robert Anderson. The former director of University Health Service was a team physician at Michigan from 1966 until his retirement in 2003. He died in 2008. A former student contacted the university's athletic director in 2018, alleging misconduct during medical exams. Several others have since alleged similar abuse from the 1970s to the 1990s. A law firm is investigating.
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State has hired Courtney Hawkins as wide receivers coach. Spartans coach Mel Tucker announced the addition to his new staff on Wednesday. Hawkins was the head coach and athletic director at Flint Beecher High School in Michigan, where he played receiver before going on to star at the position at Michigan State. Hawkins was a two-time All-Big Ten player for the late George Perles from 1988 to 1991 for the Spartans. He played in nine NFL seasons for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Fred and Jack Hoiberg will be on opposite benches when Nebraska hosts Michigan State on Thursday night. Fred is in his first year as the Cornhuskers' coach. His son Jack is a reserve guard for the Spartans. Fred and Jack both say it is going to feel weird being on opposite benches. Jack has appeared in 12 games, usually when the Spartans have a big lead. He should have a chance to play against a Nebraska team that's lost 10 in a row. Jack never seriously considered transferring to Nebraska after his father was hired last spring.
EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Lindsey Pulliam and Veronica Burton combined for 50 points, 30 in a dominate middle two quarters as No. 18 Northwestern won its sixth straight by blitzing Rutgers 82-65. Pulliam finished with 27 points and Burton scored 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting. The Wildcats led 16-14 after one quarter but outscored the Scarlet Knights 21-8 in the second quarter and 27-15 in the third to lead 64-37. Northwestern was 7 of 10 in the second quarter with a pair of 3-pointers and 10 of 14 in the third, going 4 of 5 from distance. Arella Guirantes was 11 for 11 from the foul line and had 19 points for Rutgers.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Kaila Charles scored 16 points while Shakira Austin and Diamond Miller each added 12 to help No. 7 Maryland rout Wisconsin 85-56 on Wednesday night. Maryland (22-5, 14-2 Big Ten) holds a half-game lead in the conference standings ahead of Northwestern with two games to go in the regular season. Junior Niya Beverly and freshman reserve Julie Pospisilova scored 10 points apiece for the Badgers (11-16, 3-13). The Terps have strung together 12 consecutive wins and haven’t lost since a 66-61 setback at Iowa on Jan. 9.
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue coach Jeff Brohm is adding Neil Callaway to his coaching staff. Callaway will be given the title of senior analyst. The longtime assistant served as offensive line coach for two seasons when Brohm was the head coach at Western Kentucky. Callaway most recently spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons as Southern California's offensive line coach. He also has made stops at Georgia, Houston, Auburn and his alma mater, Alabama. Callaway also compiled an 18-42 mark in five seasons as the head coach at UAB.
