ST. LOUIS (AP) — Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto left Thursday night's game at St. Louis in the eighth inning after suffering a cut on his chin while sliding into second base.

Votto, who went 3 for 4 in the game, had blood gushing from the cut. He was replaced by pinch-runner Tyler Holt.

Votto recorded his 1,400th career hit earlier in the game.
