SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Yemeni security officials say an explosion targeting a government military convoy has killed five Yemeni troops and wounded 13, many of them Saudi soldiers.

The officials said the blast took place Wednesday in the eastern Hadramawt province, far from the part of Yemen controlled by the Houthi rebels.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak to the media.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Al-Qaida's branch in Yemen has carried out similar attacks in the area.

This is the first such bombing to target Saudi forces in Hadramawt since the Saudi war in Yemen began in 2015.

It also comes days after the Houthi rebels claimed a drone-and-missile strike on Saudi Arabia's oil industry.
