SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Highway Patrol officials say an 8-year-old boy has been killed after he was ejected from a van involved in a crash near Parowan.

The name of the boy wasn't immediately released by authorities.

UHP troopers say the crash occurred around 1:45 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 15 after the van's driver lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason and it collided with a sedan.

Troopers say the boy was ejected from the van and pronounced dead at the scene.

All the van's occupants were wearing seat belts and investigators say they're looking into the possibility that the boy was wearing his seat belt incorrectly or it didn't fit him properly.

Five other occupants in the van were transported to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
