BESSEMER CITY, N.C. (AP) — The Latest on a vehicle that crashed into a North Carolina restaurant (all times local):

12:10 p.m.

A man has been accused of intentionally plowing his Jeep into a table where his family was sitting and eating inside a North Carolina restaurant, killing his daughter and his daughter-in-law.

The Gaston Gazette reports that many people in Gaston County's law enforcement community have long considered 62-year-old Roger Self a friend. Now they are questioning why he allegedly he drove through a Bessemer City restaurant Sunday, killing two family members and injuring three others.

District Attorney Locke Bell says he has known Self for more than 30 years and that the prominent local businessman will face two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his daughter, County Sheriff's deputy Katelyn Self, and his daughter-in-law, Amanda Self, a nurse. Amanda Self was the wife of Gaston County Police Officer Josh Self, who also was seriously injured, along with Roger Self's wife, Diane, and the 13-year-old daughter of Josh and Amanda Self.

It is unclear if Self has a lawyer.

Jail records show the man accused of intentionally plowing a vehicle into a Bessemer, North Carolina, restaurant is facing two counts of first-degree murder.

Those charges are outlined in jail records in Gaston County, North Carolina, for 62-year-old Roger Glenn Self. The record available online late Sunday said he was formally booked as of 7 p.m. Sunday. The records include two mug shots of Self.

Police say Self purposely drove a vehicle into a steak and seafood restaurant during Sunday's lunch hour. They say his 26-year-old daughter, who was off-duty from her sheriff's deputy job, was killed along with another person. The other person wasn't identified.

It wasn't immediately known if Roger Self had a lawyer. Messages left with a contact for the family were not immediately returned.

Witnesses say the lunchtime scene at the Surf and Turf Lodge in Bessemer City was comfortable, with families eating, until a vehicle crashed into the building.

Caleb Martin, a 14-year-old who busses tables at the restaurant, says he saw the crash that left two dead and others hurt.

"I walked over to my station and I heard a loud boom," Caleb tells WSOC-TV . He says he did not know what to do at first, but he quickly joined first responders in the helping those injured.

Caleb says he helped paramedics move tables off of someone and cleared debris so medics could reach him.

Authorities say the vehicle's driver, Roger Self, is in custody. They say his daughter is among the dead.

Caleb says Self was a regular at the restaurant.
