HAMMOND, La. (AP) — A shooting at a Louisiana college campus wounded two student-athletes early Friday, school officials said. Two suspects were later arrested and will be charged with attempted murder.

The shooting happened at 3 a.m. Friday near an assembly hall where basketball games and other sports events are held, said Southeastern Louisiana University spokeswoman Erin Cowser.

Cowser said the shooting apparently stemmed from a fight or altercation involving students and people who aren't enrolled in the school.

She said the shooting didn't force any closures or cancellations on Friday, a day when the school doesn't have a full schedule of classes.

Later Friday, Cowser said two people had been arrested and would be charged with attempted murder. She did not release their names.

The two students were treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

The school is located in Hammond, about 55 miles (88 kilometers) northwest of New Orleans.
