SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Demonstrators are expected to gather to protest the firing of the chief executive officer at the cancer institute at the University of Utah.

KUTV-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2pXo4Zt) that the protest is slated to take place at noon on Monday at the University of Utah.

University officials have been quiet about the ousting last week of Huntsman Cancer Institute's CEO and director Mary Beckerle, but faculty, staff and the Huntsman family have voiced their opposition.

Wealthy philanthropist Jon Huntsman Sr. has taken out full-page ads slamming the University of Utah's top officials for firing Beckerle, calling the college's administration "bloated, inept and uncaring" and determined to derail life-saving work.

A University of Utah Health Care spokeswoman has said the school can't provide any additional information about personnel issues.
