A former Utah English teacher in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing three students says she now recognizes she took advantage of the teens' attention as she dealt with self-esteem problems.
A member of the Board of Pardons and Parole heard from a tearful Brianne Altice Tuesday during her first hearing since she was sentenced to at least two and up to 30 years in prison.
The board is expected to decide over the next month whether to set a release date.
The 37-year-old woman pleaded guilty to three counts of forcible sexual abuse after prosecutors filed charges in three sexual relationships she had with teenage boys aged 16 and 17 in the relatively short time she taught at Davis High School.

A former Utah English teacher is set to appear before the state parole board for the first time since she was sentenced to prison after being convicted of sexually abusing three students.
The Board of Pardons and Parole will consider when to release ex-Davis High School teacher Brianne Altice on Tuesday.
The 37-year-old woman is serving at least 2 years and up to 30 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to three counts of forcible sexual abuse.
She got credit for the jail time she served starting in January 2015, when allegations emerged that she continued a sexual relationship with one of the boys after her arrest.
Prosecutors say one of the boys was 16 and two were 17 when she had sex with them.
