SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — A Russian man convicted of raping a newlywed he met at a New York bar has been sentenced to 13 years in prison and faces deportation.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (http://bit.ly/2gull1L ) 40-year-old Aleksey Shevchenko was sentenced Monday in Onondaga County Court. A judge found him guilty last month.

Shevchenko came to the U.S. 21 years ago and met the woman in June 2015. Prosecutors say he took her to his Syracuse home and raped her while she slept.

Authorities say the woman was extremely drunk and later tested positive for a date-rape drug.

The woman says she was newly married and was moving in with her husband when the rape occurred.

Shevchenko has disputed the victim's account and says he's not the person prosecutors portrayed him as.
