LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Utah State University has named its new president.
The Herald Journal reports (http://bit.ly/2eSSx3h ) the Board of Regents selected the university's vice president and provost, Noelle Cockett, to take the top job Wednesday. Cockett, who beat out three other finalists for the position, will become the university's first female president in January.
A committee comprised of board members, USU trustees and faculty had started the search for USU's next president after Stan Albrecht announced his retirement in February.
Albrecht has served in the position for 11 years.
Cockett, a native of Montana, has been working at USU since 1990. She started as a professor before she was named dean of the College of Agriculture and vice president of the USU Experiment Stations. Cockett has been serving as provost since 2013.
