JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A woman who told police that she killed her husband and set his bed on fire the day after Christmas in 2014 has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Sherry Poindexter, a nurse from Holly Ridge, North Carolina, entered her plea Thursday and was sentenced to at least 22 years in prison for fatally shooting Barry Poindexter.

Authorities said said she drove to the police department and called 911 to report the murder, saying she grabbed her husband's gun during an argument and didn't mean to kill him. She said she torched the bed because "he's a good-looking man" and she didn't want people to see him looking "terrible."

Local media report she was ordered to undergo a full psychological evaluation and pay $2,332 in funeral expenses.
