INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Latest on two Indianapolis police officers injured and a suspect killed in a shootout (all times local):

5:30 p.m.

An Indianapolis police spokesman says 16 officers discharged their weapons and fired approximately 200 rounds during an exchange of gunfire with a suspect who was killed.

Maj. Richard Riddle said Tuesday afternoon in light of the recent shootings of officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He referenced the recent shootings of officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The officer was shot in the ankle Monday night during a pursuit of the suspect. The officer has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery after a follow-up surgery. Another officer suffered very minor injuries

Riddle earlier identified the suspect as 32-year-old Jeffrey Tyson.

Indianapolis police have identified a suspect who was shot dead in an exchange of gunfire with officers

One officer was shot in the ankle in the shootout Monday evening.

Indianapolis Police spokesman Major Richard Riddle on Tuesday morning identified the suspect as 32-year-old Jeffrey Tyson. Police have said a passenger in the suspect's vehicle fled but is in custody.

The officer who was shot has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery after a follow-up surgery. Another officer suffered very minor injuries.

Police say the incident started on the city's northwest side when an officer stopped a vehicle after recognizing the plate as belonging to one involved in a crime earlier in the week.

Indianapolis police say an officer who was shot in the ankle when a suspect in a car chase opened fire has been released from the hospital.

The suspect was killed Monday in an exchange of gunfire with police.

Indianapolis Police spokesman Major Richard Riddle said Tuesday morning that the officer will have a follow-up surgery but is expected to make a full recovery. A second officer suffered minor injuries.

The suspect's identity hasn't been released. Police say a passenger in the vehicle fled but is in custody.

Indianapolis police say one officer was shot and another was injured when a suspect in a car chase opened fire on them. The suspect was later killed in an exchange of gunfire with police.

Indianapolis Police Chief Troy Riggs told reporters Monday evening that the officer who was shot was taken to a hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. He says the second officer has "very minor injuries."

Riggs says the incident began on the city's northwest side when an officer tried to stop a suspicious vehicle. He says the driver led police on a chase and began shooting.

The chief says the chase came to an end and police and the suspect exchanged gunfire. The suspect was fatally struck. He was not immediately identified.

Police say a passenger who fled the suspect's car is in custody.
