SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Officials have issued a flash flood warning for Zion National Park in southern Utah as afternoon thunderstorms have moved into the area.
Park spokeswoman Aly Baltrus says all slot canyons were closed and the flood warning would be in place until 9 p.m. Friday night.
Baltrus says visitors venturing into slot canyons needed permits and were given warnings that flooding was considered "probable" Friday.
The park is where seven hikers were killed last September in a flash flood. The group from California and Nevada set out before rangers closed park canyons. The group was swept up in quickly rising waters.
The park said it's been reviewing its policies about warnings and closures in the wake of the deaths.
Zion is the most-visited of Utah's five national parks and attracts about 3 million visitors annually.
