NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — North Las Vegas is marking the opening of a restored historic site at one of the first settled spots in the Las Vegas area.
Officials plan a Thursday ceremony at the 7-acre Kiel (KYLE') Ranch Historic Park.
The site is part of an original 240-acre homestead settled in the mid-1800s by Conrad Kiel near an ancient spring.
Artifacts suggest it was a Native American gathering spot long before Mormon missionaries arrived.
In the 1940s and 1950s, the ranch known as "Boulderado" was used by out-of-state residents taking advantage of Nevada's liberal divorce laws.
Kiel Ranch was placed on the list of the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
Restoration began in May 2015 with a $2 million budget.
The park is off Carey Avenue between Losee (LOH'-see) Road and Commerce Street.
