SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 16-year-old girl is dead after she was hit by car on I-15 in Millard County after being thrown from her vehicle.
The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/1IEIJUh) that Stephanie Villegas, of West Jordan, died at the scene of the early Sunday morning crash near Cove Fort.
According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, Villegas had unbuckled her seatbelt so she could lie across the backseat.
Authorities say the vehicle was in the northbound lanes and somehow lost control on a curve left the road.
They say the car rolled and Villegas was ejected. Another vehicle was slowing for debris but hit the teen.
Her parents, 38-year-old Monica Rodriguez, and 41-year-old Enrique Villegas, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say driver drowsiness may have been a contributing factor.
