RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The parents of the Clemson University fraternity pledge who fell to his death from a bridge last fall have filed civil lawsuits against the school, the fraternity and three members.
Each lawsuit filed Monday in the death of 19-year-old Tucker Hipps seeks $25 million plus punitive damages.
The lawsuits were filed by Cynthia and Gary Hipps Jr., parents of Tucker Hipps, who died in September 2014. Searchers found his body in rocky, shallow water below a bridge over Lake Hartwell.
In addition to the South Carolina school, the lawsuits name the local and national chapters of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity; and three members.
The school and the national fraternity said Monday they haven't seen the lawsuits.
Law enforcement authorities have said their case in Hipps' death remains open.
