PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A globe-trotting veterinarian held for six months in a Southeast Asian country has returned to Oregon, landing Wednesday night at Portland International Airport.
KATU-TV reports (http://is.gd/e5tTdD) that Stacey Addison told reporters she's thrilled to be back and thankful for all the support she received.
Addison's mother, Bernadette Kero, Oregon lawmakers and U.S. officials worked to win her release from East Timor.
The 41-year-old woman was arrested in September after sharing a taxi with a stranger who asked the driver to stop so he could pick up a package. Police stopped the vehicle, determined the package contained methamphetamine and took everyone to jail.
Addison was released after a few days, but was ordered to remain in East Timor during the investigation. In October, she was taken to a women's prison despite not being charged with a crime.
She was released from prison in late December, but she couldn't immediately leave because authorities kept her passport. She got it back on Friday.
