BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Former GOP candidate for Idaho's state superintendent Randy Jensen is not endorsing current Republican nominee Sherri Ybarra despite being listed as a campaign committee member on her website. Ybarra's campaign spokeswoman says that Ybarra took Jensen's support as an endorsement. Jensen did not immediately return calls from The Associated Press.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Firefighters have made progress suppressing Idaho's largest wildfire but anticipated extreme fire weather conditions could make putting it out difficult in the next few days. Firefighters have contained nearly half of the flames since the lightning-caused Big Cougar fire first erupted Aug. 2. High wind gusts are expected to drop into the fire region later this week.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The state pension fund posted investment returns of more than 17 percent in the fiscal year ending on June 30. A state retirement official tells the Idaho Statesman that slow and steady growth in the stock market pushed the fund to new highs. The fund held $14.686 billion at the end of the fiscal year.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Yellowstone National Park administrators are recommending the removal of roughly 900 bison next winter through hunting, shipments to slaughter and for research purposes. The proposal represents about 19 percent of the park's wild bison. Wildlife advocates say a better approach would be allowing bison into areas outside the park where they are now barred.
