LAS VEGAS (AP) — State officials say Nevada gambling revenue was up 8 percent in May compared with the same month last year. The Nevada Gaming Control Board reported today that Las Vegas Strip gambling revenue was up 17 percent while downtown revenue was down 8 percent. Reno casino revenue was up 4 percent and South Lake Tahoe gambling revenue was up 18 percent.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Supreme Court has overturned the death penalty conviction of a 65-year-old man found guilty in 2010 of raping and bludgeoning a woman to death with a hammer in 1985. The court ruled that a Clark County District Court judge should have allowed defense attorneys to argue against excusing a black prospective juror during Charles Conner's trial in the slaying of Beth Lynn Jardine.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Officials with the Latin Grammy Awards are planning to broadcast their 15th annual show from Las Vegas. Organizers say the awards show will take place Nov. 20 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. It is the seventh time the event has been held in Las Vegas, but the first time it has been held in the arena, which holds about 17,000 people.

FALLON, Nev. (AP) -- A 6-foot-6 Chinese boxer who won the super heavyweight silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics will make his professional debut in Nevada on August 8. Zhang Zhilei will fight in the heavyweight bout in Fallon on a card televised by ESPN. His opponent has not been determined. The Beijing Games also started August 8. The number eight represents good luck in Chinese.
